«The number of women in science in the world is 29%, and 43% in Russia. Other numbers, just for comparison — in Great Britain it is 39%, in Germany — 28%, in Japan — 16%,» Trubnikov said.

He went on to say that the number of female graduate students in Russia is about half of the total number of researchers — about 7 thousand doctors of science and 34 thousand candidates of science (PhD). He also pointed out the strong position of women in Russian education — the faculty members at universities are 57% female. Meanwhile, there are not enough women among authors of scientific works published in scientific periodicals -- just 21% as of now, Trubnikov said. «This is what we really must think hard about; the same situation is observed concerning patenting,» the first deputy minister said.
