Rosatom’s enterprise developed a new technology for welding complex structures

The new technology of double-beam laser welding of aluminium alloys and structural steels, including those which are difficult to weld, has been developed and patented by the scientists at the Russian Federal Nuclear Centre — All-Russian Research Institute of Experimental Physics (RFNC — VNIIEF, a part of Rosatom), the press service of RFNC — VNIIEF informed.

«The invention can be used in various fields of mechanical engineering for welding products made of structural steels and aluminium alloys,» the message said.

It is noted that, unlike other laser welding technologies, the new method simultaneously uses two lasers — pulsed and continuous ones. This helps avoid formation of cracks, as well as connect difficult to weld structural steels and aluminium alloys, including those of complex geometry.
