A road map for completion of a unique telescope will be ready in 2018

A road map (a schedule) for the completion of the unique radio telescope 'Suffa' is planned to be prepared in the fall this year. An agreement on the subject was reached during the visit of the leadership of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education to Uzbekistan, which took place on June 19−20, informed Alexander Sergeev, the president of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The construction of the telescope had been started in Uzbekistan even before the collapse of the USSR.

«We are planning to prepare in the near future a road map for the implementation of the project, together with Uzbek partners. We have agreed that we will submit the road map to the leadership of Russia and Uzbekistan later this year, possibly in the autumn,» he said.

The construction of the Radio Astronomy Observatory 'Suffa' on the high plateau of Suffa in the spurs of the Turkestan Range, about 200 km southeast of Tashkent, began in 1981. The project was frozen after 1991. The construction of the observatory has been financed from time to time since the beginning of the century, but not by sufficient amounts.
