Tyumen scientists to study mummified remains of a woman found in Yamal

The mummified remains of a woman found in the summer of 2017 in «Green Yar», the medieval necropolis in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District (YNAO), are to be studied at the Institute for Problems of Development of the North of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Tyumen together with specialists from the Seoul National University (South Korea).

Works of bronze and silver and mummified remains of a woman were found during the excavations, the scientists report. 10 burials were discovered in 2017 in the territory of the archaeological site in total, all related to the late XIII-th century AD burial ground.

The archaeological complex near the village of Zeleny Yar was discovered in 1997 during the work of the Russian-American expedition as a part of the «Living Yamal» project. Excavations began in 1999, 35 burials were discovered in 1999−2002. and farther 47 burials were discovered in 2013−2017.
