«We want to lay down the keels of these two new research vessels as early as next year. The vessels need to be designed with such parameters so that they are the most modern not in the year of laying, but in the year of commissioning, that is, in a few years time,» Trubnikov said.

It is assumed that new research vessels will have the most advanced characteristics that will give Russia leadership in this area for the next two to three decades.

At the same time, Trubnikov said, the Ministry also plans to carry out a deep modernisation of at least five research vessels — separate funding is available for that purpose, along with renewal of 50% of the instrument base of leading organisations in this field.
