Scientists discovered two new minerals on Kamchatka
«One of the interesting scientific results obtained by our research group was the discovery of a new mineral, copper-magnesium sulfate, on the top of Tolbachik on Kamchatka. The mineral has successfully undergone an approbation of Commission of New Minerals, Nomenclature, and Classification of International Mineralogical Association. We have chosen the name dravertite in memory of outstanding Russian geologist and mineralogist Petr Dravert. Later, we have found on volcano a zinc analog of dravertite with the same crystal structure. It has been named hermannjahnite in honor of Hermann Jahn, the discoverer of the Jahn-Teller effect,» - Pekov said.
According to the results of chemical analysis of mineral composition, hermannjahnite contains a lot of copper, somewhat less amount of magnesium, and a notable admixture of zinc.
