«We plan to look for traces of Pomor culture in the archipelago of Novaya Zemlya, or at least within the park borders. There are mentions in the literature, including records of Dutch navigators, of the presence of Pomeranian crosses on the shores of [the islands of Novaya Zemlya], so we understand what course archaeological study of Novaya Zemlya should follow. This is a joint project of the National Park and the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences,» Kirilov said.
