«The Open Laboratory» (formerly «All-Russian Laboratory», but it became international in 2018) — testing of scientific knowledge — will take place on February 10. The event will be part of the celebration of the Day of Russian Science, which is traditionally celebrated on February 8.

The mass event to test the scientific literacy of Russians will take place on the same day in dozens of Russian settlements: from the village of Achayvaym on Kamchatka to the city of Apatity in the Murmansk region. Moreover, no less than 20 countries will join the event in 2018, including China, Germany, France, the Czech Republic, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.

During the event participants will answer questions concerning basic life phenomena in physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy, anthropology and mechanics — e.g. if we can see an animal cell in a refrigerator and whether all substances consist of molecules, can wood be stronger than metal and what it is exactly that hurts when we’ve got a headache.

Anyone can participate in the event (i.e. become a «laboratory technician»). The sites for the event will be set at universities, research institutes of RAS, libraries, museums and other organizations, for example, the Russian Science Foundation. Also, it is possible to take part online, the organizers say in a press release.
