«The researchers have found three grappling irons dating back to the XVIIth and XIXth centuries (possibly to even earlier period), a Byzantine anchor of the VII-VIIIth centuries, and a miniature modern anchor in the mid-XXth century,» the message says.

Victor Lebedinsky, the scientific supervisor of the expedition, believes that this may indicate that a place where the equipment was found was an anchorage, and for a long time. «This indicates that there was an anchorage near Ayu-Dag, which existed for 1200 — 1300 years», Lebedinsky is quoted as saying by the press service.
