Komi administration together with scientists to establish a scientific institution in Vorkuta
«The Government of the Republic of Komi and the Komi Science Centre are working together to create a branch of the Komi Science Centre in Vorkuta — a scientific hospital, which is necessary to preserve fragments of science dedicated to the Arctic and to resume full-fledged studies aimed primarily at improving the quality of life of northerners, residents of Arctic cities», said Volodin, Chairman of the Komi Centre, at a meeting dedicated to the Day of Russian Science.
The Institute of Physiology of the Komi SC is ready to develop a strategy for the prevention of diseases in the Arctic population, since a high incidence of the cardiovascular system and overall aging of the organism is notable among residents of industrial Arctic cities. The performance of professional duties also negatively affects the bodies of workers in harmful industries as well as shift workers. Under such conditions the organisation of medical care and prevention of diseases become especially important, and that is where physiologists could help.
