Russian nanosatellite TNS-0 No. 2 can remain active in orbit until 2021, experts say
«The ballistics experts say that the current state of the atmosphere allows us to extend the expected service life of the nanosatellite TNS-0 No. 2 up to 2021. After that, it will burn in the dense layers of the atmosphere. It is planned to conduct additional experiments during this extra time to determine the extremities of service life of various instruments installed on the satellite, under the conditions of space,» the press service said.
The autonomous navigation system created in the RSS had been tested onboard the THC-0 No. 2. Its data allowed to direct with high accuracy the VHF antennas of the Mission Control Centre to communicate with the satellite, and it was also proved that the accuracy of the device ensures the independence of the control of the orbit of TNS-0 No 2 from foreign ground systems such as NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command).
