Rosatom conducts preclinical trials of a new drug for the treatment of liver cancer

Rosatom experts together with Russian doctors began preclinical trials of a new medical preparation based on the isotope yttrium-90 which could treat liver cancer. Andrei Goverdovsky, the director of JSC «I.I. Leypunsky Institute of Physics and Power Engineering» (part of the scientific division of Rosatom), said that to journalists on Tuesday.

«We have already begun preclinical trials of the drug, which is based on yttrium-90, together with the specialists from the Medical Radiological Research Centre named after A. F. Tsyba,» he said on the sidelines of the international forum Atomexpo-2018.

Yttrium-90 is an artificial radioactive isotope of yttrium used in radiation therapy.
