SPBU students suggested a low power and quiet way to cool computers

The group of graduates and undergraduate students of St. Petersburg State University (SPBU) has developed a technology for cooling computer processors, which allows to reduce the noise made by the device, to reduce both its power consumption and cost, and also to extend service life of the computer, the press service of the university informed on Monday.

«The EHD Lab team [which includes students of SPBU] came up with the idea of how to improve the [computer cooling] system to get rid of pump noise and reduce the power consumption of the device and its cost, as well as to extend service life of the computer,» the press service said.

The development allows to save on electricity and to reduce noise, since the heat removal technology is based on circulation of liquid by electrodynamic flow. The latter occurs when ions appear in the liquid dielectric under effect of electric field and then pull the liquid.
