Quantum data transmission from the ISS is to be tested in Russia in three years
There are plans to test in Russia data transmission with the use of quantum cryptography (distribution of encryption keys) from the International Space Station (ISS) to Earth in three years time. Sergei Garbuk, the Deputy Director General and the Head of Information Studies at the Russian Foundation for Advanced Research Projects, announced that at the conference 'Digital Industry of Industrial Russia' (CIPR-2018).
«We, as the Foundation, together with Roskosmos, are now preparing a project to test the system of dispersing a [quantum] cryptographic key from a spacecraft, that is from the ISS. We expect that a demonstration sample will be ready in three years, that will allow to test the technology itself as well as technological limits for speed, distortion, and so forth,» he said.
