«We, as the Foundation, together with Roskosmos, are now preparing a project to test the system of dispersing a [quantum] cryptographic key from a spacecraft, that is from the ISS. We expect that a demonstration sample will be ready in three years, that will allow to test the technology itself as well as technological limits for speed, distortion, and so forth,» he said.

«We hope that we will be able to conduct some more archaeological excavations there, because our institute had reached an agreement with the Syrian authorities on these excavations in the spring of 2015, just a few days before the hostilities began. But we did not sign the documents — the fighting began. We do hope that after modern Tadmor is restored, it will be possible to come there again and continue the works,» Solovyova said.

Russian specialists also intend to take part in the restoration of the monuments of Palmyra, said Solovyova.

Russian nanocomposite will extract hydrogen from biofuel

New cheap nanocomposite membranes will facilitate the production of hydrogen — an important resource for the chemical industry and advanced fuels. Vladislav Sadykov and his co-authors from the Laboratory of Deep Oxidation Catalysts at the Boreskov Institute of Catalysis of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences described their unique development in the article published in the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy.

Vladislav Sadykov and his colleagues used a composite of neodymium tungstate and nickel-copper alloy nanoparticles, to cover a nickel-aluminium foam alloy foundation. A porous layer of catalyst, which separates hydrogen from ethanol, was then applied to that membrane. Thus they acquired a system for the conversion of ethanol to hydrogen and the segregation of pure gas. The authors researched the properties of the finished membrane and showed that all its parameters point to high efficiency and a sufficient operational life.
