Russian scientists have created a computer programme to find new antibiotics
A team of Russian scientists together with American professor Hossein Mohimani developed a computer program that looks for peptidic natural products (PNPs), which produce bacteria and fungi to protect against parasites, and have a great potential for creating antibiotics. The new algorithm finds suitable PNPs much faster than it was possible before, the authors believe.
Global Natural Products Social (GNPS), one of the largest natural resource databases, has been collected by scientists from laboratories from around the world and it already contains more than one billion mass spectra. Researchers now need much less time to find new potential antibiotics the databaseit.
