Scientists from Leningrad region developed a method for creating plantations of fast-growing trees

The scientists from the Leningrad Region, who work in the forestry field, have developed a method for creating fast-growing tree plantations that could be planted close to woodworking enterprises, said Yuri Danilov, the head of the Department of Soil Science and Forestry of the St. Petersburg State Forest Technical University.

«The technology makes it possible for processing enterprises to create accelerated growth plantations, and we also significantly reduce the cost of delivery — [the wood] is delivered to every pulp enterprise from over the distance of 100−200 km. So if we create accelerated plantations close to processing plants, we can set [the process] up as in they do agriculture: cut down — plant new trees, it is like a conveyor. We get the wood we need — if it is spruce, grow spruce, if pine, then pine, you need, say, birch for plywood, plant birch trees,» Danilov explained.
