System created by company at Skolkovo Foundation reduces period of cancer detection by three times

The 'Biochip Research and Development Company', a resident of the Cluster of Biomedical technologies ('Biomed') of the Skolkovo Foundation, has developed a diagnostic system for polyclinics and hospitals, which makes it possible to reduce the time required to diagnose an oncological disease from 14 to 3−4 days, said Svyatoslav Zinoviev, oncologist and the director of Biochip.

«We have problems with oncological diseases, primarily because of the complexity of the morphological verification of cancer, as well as making a diagnosis, that takes from 14 to 30−35 days, during which time the cancer could progress from the first stage to the third. Such long terms are due to the fact that, for example, a patient who has been admitted to a district hospital, has to receive a referral to the regional cancer detection centre to have biopsy performed, where he would have to wait for some time to be tested. We offer a possibility to cut this chain short by transferring online the data to a morphologist. This way the patient would have a ready diagnosis in just three days,» Zinoviev said.
