Scientists from Tomsk and Tokyo have discovered a new species of poisonous fugu fish

A specimen of previously unknown fugu fish (a poisonous fish species considered to be a delicacy in Japan) discovered by scientists of the Biological institute of Tomsk State University (TSU) in the water area of Sakhalin, has been named «figured fish-dog». The curator of the Ichthyological Collection of the National Museum of Nature and Science in Tokyo helped confirm the discovery of the Tomsk scientist, the press service of the TSU reported.

«Yuri Dyldin, a scientist at the Biological Institute of the University of Tver, asked his colleague from Tokyo, Keiichi Matsuura, for a consultation to help verify that the specimen found indeed belonged to a new species — which, as the test showed, had previously been mistakenly attributed to another species. The new species got its fanciful name because of its bright colour — the body of the fish is of light brown colour covered with numerous white spots,» the press service of the TSU explained.
