Russian scientists taught a neural network to analyse complaints about medicines in social networks

A group of Russian scientists have managed to teach the neural network to analyse complaints and opinions of patients about the medicines, which they publish in social networks. The result will help study the effects of medications on the human body, the press service of Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT), which takes part in the study, informed on Friday.

The scientists have trained the neural network to translate text written by lay audience (for example, «I can not fall asleep all night» or «I'm feeling slightly dizzy») into formal medical language (for example, «insomnia» and «dizziness», respectively).

The authors of the work believe that improvements in the accuracy of intellectual analysis of patients' messages in social networks will help in the studies of the effects of medications on the human body, subsequent prescription of preparations, and understanding their effects in the context of other factors such as simultaneous intake of different drugs, diet, and lifestyle.
