Mycologists found a unique type of mushrooms in the Pskov region

The mycologists have discovered a mushroom of the family Diplocarpa bloxamii in the territory of the Polistovsky National Nature Reserve in the Pskov Region. It had not been previously observed in the territory of Russia, it says in a statement by the press service of the Reserve.

Diplocarpa bloxamii is known thanks to some not overly numerous findings in Europe. It is a mushroom of an olive-black colour, it grows on a short stem. The diameter of the cup of the fungus is about five millimetres, the fungus grows mostly on decaying wood.

«More than ten rare species of fungi have been found in September within the Polistovsky National Nature Reserve by mycologists from Moscow (Moscow State University) and St. Petersburg (Komarov Botanical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, BIN RAS). Some of the species have not been not previously observed in the Pskov Region, and one — Diplocarpa bloxamii — in Russia at all,» the message of the press service states.
