Russia will hand over 2.2 thousand samples to the World Seeds Deposit in February

Russia plans to hand over about 2.2 thousand samples of seeds of feed plants to be stored at the World Deposit of seed collections of domestic plants located on the island Spitsbergen, the director of N.I. Vavilov Research Institute of Plant Industry (IPI) Nikolaj Dzyubenko said.

«We have an agreement with the global trust fund which controls the Seed Deposit to hand over doublets of a collection of seed plants for the secure storage. This year, 2200 samples will be delivered to the Deposit confined to the storage anniversary,» - Dzyubenko said. He added that in total Russia has already handed over to the Deposit more than 10 thousand secure doublets from the collection of IPI.

According to Dzyubenko, the new storage contribution will mostly consist of collections of seeds of following feed plants: wheat, barley, oats, grain legumes.
