The monitoring of the water quality in Amur River was done by Russian and Chinese scientists starting from 2005 after the large emergency at a chemical plant in China, but because of irregular financial support of monitoring from the Russian side, it was ceased three years ago.

«The monitoring gave us a chance to track the state and quality of water at the borderline areas of rivers of Amur reservoir based on 40 main characteristics. Afterward, the information on the changes was delivered to local governmental departments of Amur region and neighboring Chinese provinces to understand the situation on the river. This joint monitoring has to be resumed,» - Makhinov said after a session at All-Russian Scientific Conference on the Ecological Problems of Far East of Russia and East Asia held in Khabarovsk on 2.-5. of October.
