Skoltech scientists have developed a mathematical model of a battery, that is charged by the Sun

A group of scientists from the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech), Lomonosov Moscow State University, and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) have developed a model of dynamics of the most important characteristics of a flow (aka redox) battery, that accumulates energy from renewable sources (e.g. wind and the Sun). That will help identify problems in the operation of such devices and expand their scope of use, the press service of Skoltekh reports.

«A team of scientists from Skoltekh, Moscow State University, and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology have developed a mathematical model for the electrochemical cell of a vanadium redox battery (VRB), also called vanadium flow battery. The model describes dynamic behaviour of VRB, taking into account the flow of vanadium ions through the membrane. The model developed by the scientists will help monitor the problems arising during operation of vanadium batteries», the report says.
