Medvedev: funding for science shall be increased for the current year
«I would like to say that it’s encouraging in itself, that last year we increased civil science funding by 20% compared to 2016, which in itself is not bad, it’s still by one-fifth,» he said in a speech congratulating the winners of the government’s prize for science. «The increase will be even greater this year, it’s in the amounts of hundreds of billions of rubles.»
The head of government admitted that this would still not be enough, but added that as the economy grow, additional money would become available. «We will change priorities in a certain way, there will be more funding, and we will follow this course together with the Russian Academy of Sciences, the scientific community, the high-tech industry, we will develop these areas, implement our strategic plans and programmes,» he added and pointed out that national development has no future without science.
