Tomsk scientists created a medication for gastroenterological diseases based on an ornamental plant

Scientists at the Laboratory of Phytochemistry and Experimental Pharmacology at Tomsk State University (TSU) have managed to extract medicinal substances for treatment of gastroenterological diseases from the plant Maltese cross campion (Lychnis chalcedonica), also known to gardeners as burning love, dusky salmon, and flower of Bristol, said Larisa Zibareva, the head of the laboratory.

"We have isolated a complex of biologically active substances, flavonoids, present in plants, and it became the basis for a new gastroprotective agent, which has a mild action and almost no side effects," she explained.
