Scientists have found a mammoth skeleton in Yakutia

Scientists from the M.K. Ammosov North-Eastern Federal University together with their colleagues from Japan have found a mammoth skeleton during excavations in the Verkhoyansk region of Yakutia. There are preserved soft tissues and wool on the skeleton as well, the message on the University website informs.

«On August 12, located 220 km down the Yana River in the Yunyugen area of the Verkhoyansk region, an incomplete mammoth skeleton with soft tissues and wool was found. The excavations continue,» says the message.

This is all the information that is available at the moment, Alexei Petrov, a senior researcher at the research Institute of Applied Ecology of the North of NEFU explained. More details will be announced after the expedition has been concluded.
