Krasnoyarsk scientists destroy cancer cells with gold nanoparticles
«The team of scientists has developed a method for targeted destruction of cancer cells using gold nanoparticles and thermal effects. Special molecules deliver the therapeutic nanoparticles to the tumour. When exposed to laser irradiation, the particles heat and destroy the cancerous tissue of the tumour, leaving healthy tissues intact. The method is suitable for cases when the surgical removal of the tumour would be problematic», — the Krasnoyarsk Science Centre reported.
Experiments in the destruction of malignant cells have only been carried on mice so far. In order to be able to use it in clinics, complete preclinical and clinical trials of the drug should be carried out.
