Komi scientists have bred promising high-yield potato varieties

Scientists at the Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture of the Komi Republic have bred new promising varieties of potatoes that will give a good yield under the northern conditions — 1.7 times higher than other varieties used. Andrei Yudin, the ad interim head of the Institute, told this to journalists on Thursday.

«A total of 12 selection potato lines with a yield of 400 to 1600 grams per plant, one promising hybrid, Zyryanets, with a yield of 33.8 tons per hectare, which is 1.7 times higher than the yield of other varieties grown in Komi. The new variety is resistant to several fungal diseases, cancer, and golden nematode. In 2017, the author’s certificate was obtained for the variety,» said Yudin during a meeting organised to mark the Day of Russian Science.
