Russian scientists created the first in the world high precision 4D radar for unmanned vehicles

Scientists at the Radio Navigation Research Laboratory at the Research Institute of Radio Engineering Systems of Tomsk State University (TSU) took part in the project of creation of the first in the world prototype of a 4D radar for unmanned vehicles. The radar is capable of operating at any speed and it monitors objects on the road with high precision. The project had been started by the Russian company 'Cognitive Technologies', which develops artificial intelligence for unmanned vehicles, press service of the company informed.

"This is like the third eye for a drone, in fact. Our radar, thanks to the unique technology 'Cognitive super human level', has the best resolution [among similar devices] on the market and works at any speed. Accuracy of object detection based on information received from the device is up to 97.7% and in combination with a video camera it guarantees safety on the road," the source of the news agency said.

The Scopus Awards Russia 2018 award for the most highly cited paper has been awarded to Vladimir Reznikov from Novosibirsk State University and Viktor Ovcharenko from the International Tomography Centre of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the press service of the award organiser, the information analytics company Elsevier, informed on Thursday.

The Scopus Awards Russia 2018 award ceremony took place on Thursday in Moscow. Awards were received by Russian scientists in five different nominations. The contribution of each scientist to the development of science was assessed based on data collected by Scopus, the largest integrated database of annotations and citations of reviewed scholarly literature; more than 1,300 research and educational organisations in Russia obtained access to in 2018 as a part of the national subscription project.

RAS will establish representative offices in France, Germany, and China

The Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) plans to establish representative offices in several countries, in France, Germany, and China to start with, as was announced by Alexander Sergeyev, the president of the RAS at a joint meeting of the Council of the Chamber of the Federation Council and the Presidium of the RAS.

"We came forward with the initiative to establish representative offices of the RAS in several countries abroad, in particular, organisation of representative offices in France, Germany, and China are actively being discussed with colleagues from other countries and they seem to be close to fruition. We will begin our work there. We are now acquiring technical possibilities to support such activities," Sergeyev said.
