Archeologists discovered in Crimea figurine featuring the god of silence Harpocrates
In Greek and Roman practices, Harpocrates was considered as the god of silence. In Hellenistic Greece and Rome, it was an interpretation of Egyptian god Horus which had its origin in the erroneous understanding figurines of the goddess Isis which was often depicted with her son Horus as a boy with his finger near or in the mouth.
«Up to now, there were no similar items found in Crimea. The previously known data on Harpocrates god were connected with Egyptian culture, while his picture was not widespread on the Crimea territory,» - the Head of Scientific and Research Center of the History and Archeology of Crimea at KFU Alexander Aibabin commented.
