Scientists will study geological layers where remains of a mammoth in the Tver region were found

The scientists are going to study in 2019 the conditions of formation of geological layers and also to continue the search for animal remains at the site of the discovery of mammoth bones in the Tver region. This will make it possible to more accurately determine what life conditions in this territory were about 25 thousand years ago, said Yevgeny Mashchenko, a senior researcher at the Borisiak Paleontological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).

«We hope to obtain information about the processes that led to formation of modern environmental conditions as well as about adaptation of animals to changes that have taken place over the past 20−25 thousand years. It is planned to study the geological layers, determine the conditions of their formation, study all the bones of the mammoth skeleton, and look for the remains of other animals of that era,» Mashchenko said.
