«We will begin to work in the Barents Sea, in the area not quite reaching the Kara Gates, then we will go to the Kara Sea, we will make observations at various points which we have been observing for many years, then pass the Vilkitsky Strait and go to the eastern part of the Laptev Sea. The expedition will last for 36 days, and then we will return to Arkhangelsk on September 20,» explained Mikhail Flint, the head of the expedition and deputy director of the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology.

«It's odds on that there are new species to discover: mollusks, crustaceans, shrimps, starfish, worms, primarily polychaeta. New species will certainly be discovered, but this is not even the most interesting. The sensation would be if something new regarding complexes of species is discovered, and that will give a more complete picture of the functioning of the ecosystem,» Vedenin said.
