Scientists launched the first experiment at NICA collider in Dubna in Moscow region
The ionic accelerator complex NICA (Nuclotron-based Ion Collider fAcility) is constructed on the base of JINR in Dubna to study properties of dense baryon matter. The researchers plan to reproduce at laboratory conditions the state of the matter which was characteristic of the Universe at first moments after the Big Bang.
«The first experiments have been started two days ago at bolts withdrawn from the active superconductive accelerator nuclotron which is the basis for the constructing the new collider. Apart from studying dense baryonic matter and collisions of heavy ions which are at a fielding stage, the researchers plan to explore an exciting but not yet unraveled task: an interaction of two components of any nucleus, two nuclons, when their forces change the status from attractive to repulsive. The physical program of NICA project has been started», — Kekelidze said.
