«The most significant result of the expedition was that it was confirmed that there is a population of the Ustyurt urial (mountain sheep) in Kaplankirand and a large group of gazelles in southern Ustyurt, for which this territory is a key habitat. The area needs to be given the status of a specially protected natural area (SPNA), especially in the context of plans for the development of hydrocarbon deposits of Kansu and Samtyr in the immediate vicinity of the borders of the Ustyurt State Reserve,» the press service of ACBK reported.

Scientists hope that the data collected during the expedition will form the basis for the preparation of a scientific justification for the establishment of a SPNA in southern Ustyurt.
