Excavations in Sevastopol will reveal more details of defence during the Crimean War

The excavations that began in October in Istorichesky Boulevard in Sevastopol, in which volunteers of the Russian Geographical Society will take part, along with archaeologists, will possibly help obtain unique information about the defence of the city during the Crimean War (1853−1856), the press service of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia informed on Thursday.

«The research will allow to reconstruct the real picture of the events of the defence of Sevastopol and to remind us of its brave defenders … Work is planned in the territory of the 4th bastion, the part of the semi-ring of land fortifications on the southern side of Sevastopol in 1854−1855, created under the guidance of Lieutenant Colonel Edward Totleben,» the statement said.
