Tomsk scientists came up with a method that allows to double the resolution of nanoscopes

Scientists from Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) together with colleagues from Bangor University in the UK have developed a new method of increasing resolution and contrast of the most accurate microscopes to date — nanoscopes, informed Igor Minin, the professor at the Division for Electronic Engineering at TPU.

It was he who suggested to use non-spherical particles — cylinders, cubes, or pyramids — as lenses in such microscopes. These particles work as superlenses and collect damped waves, which are capable of forming an image with a resolution two to three times higher than usual. The difficulty with using such particles is that a special suspension (as a kind of dispersion) is required to fix them in positions in a microscope, Minin explained.
