"This year the conference is being held for the tenth time, a record number of participants have gathered - more than 200, whereas previously there were no more than 180," Artemieva said.

The participants are going to discuss how to stop the decrease of the number of large marine animal species in the North. Baleen and toothed whales, pinnipeds, sirens, polar bears, sea otters, as well as inhabitants of large freshwater bodies such as the Baikal seal and the Ladoga ringed seal are among the species expected to be talked about.
