«At the initiative of the Irkutsk Academic Institutes of the SB RAS, a project has been developed to create a centre of the «megascience» class for studies of Baikal and the Baikal natural area using new scientific approaches to the organisation of complex monitoring … The creation of such a centre will be a new step in the studies of the unique ecosystem of Baikal, the press service quoted Igor Bychkov, the academic director of the Irkutsk Scientific Centre of the SB RAS, as saying.

It is assumed that the project by the Siberian scientists will allow the use of biosensorics, geodynamics, hydrochemistry, artificial intelligence, mathematical and information modelling for the study of the lake. The system will record virtually all the changes around the unique lake, including the state of water, atmosphere, the earth’s crust, geomagnetic field, and ecosystem. The data will be stored in a single data centre.
