Expedition of RGO’s «Floating University» will study cryo-deserts in Yakutia during the summer

Members of the second expedition of the Floating University of the Yakut branch of the Russian Geographical Society (RGO), which will be conducted during the coming summer, will study cryo-deserts and permafrost landscapes of the middle taiga in Yakutia. Rosalia Ivanova, the project manager and the chairman of the Commission for Tourism Development of the regional branch of the RGO said that to TASS on Monday.

«Expeditions will be conducted in July and August on the Lena and Vilyui rivers. In the lower reaches of the Vilyui river basin, we will study the Yakut cryo-deserts, a unique northern landscape, which has its own ecosystem. And in the upper reaches of Lena, in the Lena and Olekminsky regions, — the effect technogenesis has on permafrost landscapes of the middle taiga,» Ivanova said.

She also noted that there will be ecologists, biologists, permafrost scientists, lake scientists, as well as historians and archaeologists, among the members of the expedition.
