Tomsk scientists have created a coronary stent with nanoparticles that prevent atherosclerosis
«We have assembled a prototype of the stent. The nanoparticles on its surface penetrate the structure of an atherosclerotic plaque, change its properties — one could say they physically break it. The plaque breaks down and eventually disappears thanks to the flow of blood. It is known already that it is not toxic and is safe for humans,» Trusova said.
A stent is a support for the walls of the vessel, which makes the latter wider, but the stent needs to be changed after five to six years because the plaque progresses. But the stent developed in Tomsk breaks the plaque and thus saves the patient the pain of a new operation, Trusova explained.
