Tomsk researchers created complex model of brain from special gel to study oncology processes

Scientists from the Tomsk Polytechnic University together with the colleagues from the Institute of Oncology at Tomsk Research and Scientific Medicine Center have created a complex phantom of the brain which can be used to track the distribution of temperature in the brain of a subject with glioblastoma during the hyperthermia treatment. The new data on the temperature difference will make the therapy more precise and efficient.

«Using phantoms, the prototypes of brain, blastoma, and equivalent of spinal fluid produced from the special gel, we have measured the temperature of heating with high precision and shown that during the standard procedures, healthy tissues do not experience the dangerous excessive heat. At the same time, the temperature in the „blastoma“ will be higher which is needed for successful therapy,» - Irina Miloichikova, a member of the scientific team said.
