The last year investigations have made it possible for the specialists from the Center to give a positive outlook for the salmon fishing season in 2018 in the Sea of Okhotsk. According to the scientists, the yield of humpback will be at least at the average level of many recent years. Also, the joint work with fishers in the last year led already to the increase of mackerel and pilchard harvest up to 65 thousand tons.

«This year, the large bottom trawl survey will be held in the Chukchee Sea. As we experience now the tendency of warming Arctic seas and expansion of fishery, these northern seas become more promising for fishers than before. In the last years, the investigations in the west part of Bering Sea have shown the notable increase in codfish stock. Hence, it might be the case that this species has been expanded in commercial amounts also to Chukchee Sea», — Buslov said.
