Crimean scientists are developing a periodic system of cellular types

Several FASO (The Federal Agency for Scientific Organisations) institutes in the Crimea are developing a programme of global genome mapping and genomic inventory of vegetation, which will help create a periodic system of cellular types. Yuri Ploogatar, director of the Nikitsky Botanical Garden, said this on Thursday at a meeting of the Council for Science and Education.

«Six institutes subordinate to the FASO are already developing a programme pertaining to global diversity. It is a programme for the formation, study of global genomic mapping and genomic inventory of vegetation. It’s a study at the level of single cells we are talking about, and the result would be a periodic system of cellular types comparable only to Mendeleev’s Periodic Table. This is indeed a breakthrough,» said Ploogatar.
