Speleologists found a possible extension of the cave with remains of mammoths in the Crimea

The speleologists discovered a possible extension of the karst cave in the Crimea, where the remains of mastodons and mammoths had been found, informed Gennady Samokhin, the chairman of the counsil of the Russian Union of Speleologists and an academic secretary of the Crimean Department of the Russian Geographical Society.

«Cavities have already been found. A drilling will be performed using a drill of a diameter of 600 mm, to make way for the speleologists. I mean, it could happen tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. This is undoubtedly a unique geological system that is now blocked by clay and dump deposits in places. It was a single system of water-bearing stratum in ancient times», Samokhin said.

The cave can stretch for several tens of kilometres, said the source to the news agency.
