Researchers have synthesized bright luminescent silicon nanocrystals for application in energetics

A group or Russian and Sweden scientists using gold nanoribbons has managed to change the luminescence of silicon nanocrystals (silicon quantum dots), which can be applied for creating solar batteries, the press-office of Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) said.

Researchers from Skoltech together with colleagues from Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) and Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm (KTH) have first theoretically and then experimentally demonstrated that gold nanoribbons change the properties of silicon quantum dots which can be applied in developing solar batteries.

The application of silicon quantum dots in photoelements would substantially lower technological costs in solar energetics. Moreover, one can refuse of using poisonous substances as arsenic or lead in the course of fabricating solar batteries.

The results of the study were published in the prominent journal Scientific Reports.
