Research Centre for Arctic and North Development has been established in Yakutia

The Arctic Research Centre of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), created through the re-profiling of the Centre for Arctic Archaeology and Palaeoecology of Humans at the regional scientific institution opens as a new institution.

«The main purpose of the institution is to organise and conduct research aimed at obtaining and applying new knowledge about the laws of nature, society and human development that promote technological, economic, social and spiritual development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in particular,» said Yuri Shipitsyn, the head of the centre.

He also noted that creation of an integrated centre pertains to the need to «concentrate research resources to solve the problems of the northerners, primarily those concerning social and economic development of the territory, the study of environmental problems also remains important.»
