«The field season on the island has started. Vasily Baranyuk, the chief white geese expert, has already arrived, along with two of our specialists, Ulyana Babiy and Pavel Kulemeev. They should ring a thousand white geese during the following six months, as well as make an estimation of the demographic condition of their population and also check the condition of the birds, their brood and nests,» Gruzdev explained.

The scientists had counted more than 130 thousand nests, in which about 350 thousand birds lived, during the previous field season. This is a half-century maximum in the population size of the white geese.
