A super quality signal amplifier for quantum computers developed in Russia

Russian physicists from the «MISiS» University and two institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences have developed a superconducting signal amplifier for quantum computers, which has great potential for use in various technical devices.

The creation of a quantum computer is one of the fundamental problems for the physics of the XXI century. Scientists believe that quantum computers will not only outperform modern computers in terms of speed, but they will also be able to solve problems that ordinary computers can not, such as the description of complex physical systems or the structure of molecules. Several companies and scientific institutions from around the world are actively working on creating effective prototypes of quantum computers. One of the leaders of this «quantum race» - IBM — announced last year that it had created quantum prototypes of 20 and 50 qubits.

Russian physicists managed to create a unique qubit signal amplifier using a superconductor made of niobium (qubit is an information storage element of a quantum computer). The superconducting amplifier, which the scientists have developed, creates the lowest possible level of interference (quantum limit), similar to that of cosmic vacuum.
