Russian scientists created a unique alloy that can withstand 1400 degrees Celsius

Scientists at Tomsk State University (TSU) have developed a technology for making a unique heat resistant alloy that can withstand 1400 degrees Celsius. The material can be effectively used in shipbuilding, aviation, and space industries, the press service of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia informed.

«The task that had been set at the level of a state program was to obtain a material that is operable at temperatures of up to 1400 degrees Celsius. To solve the set task, our team developed a method using which we could, right during the process of synthesis, define the structure of powder materials consisting of a metallic or intermetallic matrix, within which refractory ceramic particles are distributed. Simply put, each particle of such powder is a very small metal ball, less than a tenth of a millimetre in diameter, and inside it even smaller ceramic particles are distributed,» Vladimir Promahov, an expert at the Laboratory of High Energy Systems and New Technologies of TSU is quoted in the message as saying.
