Scientists created for Russian collider a detector detail made of 100 thousand carbon wires

Russian and Italian researchers have elaborated a conception and carried out first successful tests of a detector fragment which might be applied upon creation of a unique domestic device of «mega science» class «Super S-Tau factory». The device includes 100 thousand strained carbon wires, each of those is three times thinner than a human single hair, the Chief of Laboratory at Institute of Nuclear Physics of Siberian Division of Russian Academy of Sciences Ivan Logashenko said.

The «Super S-Tau Factory» is a project of «mega science» class, the research accelerative complex. The main objective for creating this complex is to study the processes of production of elementary particles, the search for the so-called new physics, which comprises events beyond the frame of the Standard model — theoretical physics describing the interaction of all elementary particles. As it was reported before, the complex should be launched in 2027−2028, while the first experiments will be done in 2029. The total budget of the project is about 37 milliard rubbles.
